My first sale. (:

                                                                   'Memento Mori'

The Mexican festival- the Day of the Dead, is held for the living to come together and celebrate death. Those who have passed away are remembered, and their lives celebrated. But it also serves to remind us that inevitably death is always lurking, and that one day we too will die. Rather than impressing this message ominously, the festival is full of life and colour- we must make the most of life and live each day to the fullest because one day, our time might just be up. Or, 'Memento Mori'.

Each year my tiny little Townsville School holds an arts and music gallery. My mixed media artwork entitled 'Memento Mori' was sold to the principal of my school for just under $70. Not bad. (:

I'm a huge fan of texture, so I really went all out in this one. I used acrylics, water colours, charcoal, pastels, shredded butchers paper and of course... graphite pencil and glue.

I'm hoping I can create more pieces of art in this way... I'll get back to you on that harebrained idea during the holidays.
